These dialogues are fluid, capturing a moment in time—thoughts, ideas, feelings. No Texan status required, just a foot in Texas at some point. I capture a few quick phone snapshots, and both the conversation and the images shape my paintings. At its core, the project captures fleeting, genuine human connection—rooted in place, yet open to all.
“Conversations in Texas” is an ongoing project blending portraiture and biographical fiction. I engage in conversations with people I do not deeply know—strangers or loose acquaintances—where the initial social discomfort is part of the fabric.
For each conversation, I create two paintings: one with a closer, more intimate view, and the other influenced by our time together, weaving a biographical narrative. Each set will include some writing about this experience.
