“The historical sense involves a perception, not only of the pastness of the past, but of its presence”
― T.S. EliotFour Quartets

I am a T.S. Eliot fan and am fascinated by the delineation of year end and year beginning, the past and and it’s relationship to the present and future.

This painting, “Samuel McFarland McLemore”, is inspired by my great grandfather. He is the father of my maternal grandfather Roy McLemore.  Samuel was born in Jasper, Texas a few months before Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. He was skinny as a pole and known to wear two pairs of glasses at once.
